The Theatre Arts Production Company School (TAPCo) is a New York City Public School serving grades 6-12. It began as, and continues to be, a middle school of distinction and was cited as a "hidden gem" in Clara Hemphill's book "New York City's Best Middle Schools" (Please reference tapco at www. insideschools.org).
TAPCo is a learner-centered, performance-based school of choice. We are committed to promoting intellectual engagement which fosters creativity, diversity and personal responsibility. As a small school, we are able to provide a safe and personalized environment to a multi-cultural community.
TAPCo challenges students through a variety of creative strategies. All theatre arts classes are well integrated with the core curriculum through an essential question in each grade. Therefore, all theatre arts classes support and reinforce the subjects which your child is required to study. We provide an opportunity for our children to pursue training in the arts as well as challenging their academic college preparation. We follow a "Schoolwide Enrichment Model" and utilize "The Life Skills Crisis Intervention" program to build community and develop productive relationships for our children.
ZERO TOLERANCE HAT POLICYAs many of you are aware the DOE has a no hat wearing policy. However, students have shown that they are too tempted to wear them if they are allowed to hold them
throughout the day. This also goes against our school dress code policy.
With this in mind, Tapco will inplement a new
zero tolerance hat policy effective Monday, February 1st, 2010. We will have lockers that students will be required to put their hats in. This is the same as our
zero tolerance electronics policy.
All confiscated hats will be held in the main office, and will be returned only to a parent/guardian following a conference.
Your cooperation is most appreciated.
Yours truly,
Lynn PassarellaPrincipal
