WELCOME TO TAPCO!

The Theatre Arts Production Company School (TAPCo) is a New York City Public School serving grades 6-12. It began as, and continues to be, a middle school of distinction and was cited as a "hidden gem" in Clara Hemphill's book "New York City's Best Middle Schools" (Please reference tapco at www. insideschools.org).

TAPCo is a learner-centered, performance-based school of choice. We are committed to promoting intellectual engagement which fosters creativity, diversity and personal responsibility. As a small school, we are able to provide a safe and personalized environment to a multi-cultural community.

TAPCo challenges students through a variety of creative strategies. All theatre arts classes are well integrated with the core curriculum through an essential question in each grade. Therefore, all theatre arts classes support and reinforce the subjects which your child is required to study. We provide an opportunity for our children to pursue training in the arts as well as challenging their academic college preparation. We follow a "Schoolwide Enrichment Model" and utilize "The Life Skills Crisis Intervention" program to build community and develop productive relationships for our children.

TAPCo High School has also been cited as a NYC school of distinction  (Clara Hemphill: "NYC Best High Schools").  Beginning in 10th grade Honor Roll students are invited to attend a "College Now" program at Lehman College. Tuition is cost free and all credits can be transferred to a student's choice of a college

The Class of 2009, our first graduating high school class,  celebrated graduation at The Apollo Theatre on June 28, 2009. Students  were proud of the 97% graduation rate. As well they enjoyed a college acceptance rate of 96% to universities and colleges including Tulane University,  Union College, Manhattan and Mt St Vincent Colleges, CW Post, Long Island University, Fashion Institute of Technology,  SUNY Purchase and CUNY at  Hunter and City Colleges.

We applaud our current Senior Class.  As of February 1, 2010,  62% of our students have already received multiple college acceptances with scholarships ranging from $5,000-$80,000.
